Terms of use
The rules for using Haikudo, in plain English.
Last updated: 15 October 2026
These terms are the rules for using Haikudo, the app and the website at haikudo.app. We have tried to keep them short and in plain English. By creating an account or using Haikudo, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Haikudo.
In these terms, "Haikudo", "we" and "us" mean the people who run Haikudo, and "you" means anyone who uses it.
Who can use Haikudo
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Haikudo.
- If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian is happy for you to use it.
- You need an account to post, comment, follow or send messages. Keep your sign-in details safe, and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- One person, one account. Do not pretend to be someone else.
Your haiku and other content
- You own what you write. Your haiku, comments, messages, images and profile details (your "content") stay yours.
- You give us permission to show it. When you post content on Haikudo, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display and share it within Haikudo, so that the app can work (for example, showing your haiku in other people's feeds, or a shared collection). We will not sell your content or use it in advertising.
- This licence ends when you delete the content or your account. Copies may remain for a short time in backups, and messages you have sent stay visible to the people you sent them to, as described on our delete your account page.
- You are responsible for what you post. Only post content you have the right to share. Do not post other people's poems, photos or artwork as your own.
Acceptable use
Haikudo is meant to be a calm, kind place. When you use it, you must not post, send or share anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone, or encourages others to do so;
- is hateful, meaning it attacks or demeans people because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or any similar characteristic;
- is sexual or sexually explicit, or sexualises anyone under 18 in any way;
- is illegal, or promotes or helps with illegal activity, including content that infringes someone else's copyright or other rights;
- promotes violence, self-harm or suicide;
- shares someone else's private information without their permission;
- is spam, scams, misleading advertising or repeated unwanted messages.
You also must not:
- try to access other people's accounts, or parts of Haikudo you are not meant to access;
- interfere with or disrupt Haikudo, for example by overloading it, or by uploading viruses or other harmful code;
- use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to collect content or use Haikudo without our permission.
Reporting, blocking and moderation
- Report it. If you see a haiku, comment, message or user that breaks these terms, report it in the app or email [email protected].
- Block someone. You can block another user from their profile. Blocking hides their content from you and stops them interacting with you.
- How we moderate. We review reports as quickly as we can. If content breaks these terms, we may remove it, and we may warn, restrict, suspend or close the account responsible. In serious cases, such as threats to someone's safety or content involving the abuse of children, we may report it to the police or other authorities.
- We cannot review everything posted on Haikudo before it appears, but we act on what is reported to us.
- If you think we have removed your content or restricted your account by mistake, email us and we will take another look.
Ending your account
- You can leave at any time. Delete your account in the app under Profile → Settings → Account Settings → Delete Account, or follow the steps on our delete your account page.
- We can suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or where we have to by law. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why.
- We may change, pause or stop Haikudo, or any part of it. If we plan to close Haikudo completely, we will try to give you reasonable notice.
Haikudo is provided "as is"
- Haikudo is a small, independent app that is still being developed. We work hard to keep it running well, but we provide it "as is", without guarantees that it will always be available, error-free or secure.
- We are not responsible for content that other people post. Views expressed in their haiku and messages are their own.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
- Subject to that, we are not liable for any indirect loss, or for any loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you started using Haikudo.
Your privacy
Our privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and the choices you have.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We will change the "Last updated" date above, and if the changes are significant we will let you know in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Haikudo after that, the new terms apply.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you have a dispute with us, you can bring it in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring it in the courts where you live.
